La Princesa || Sofia's First Hospital Stay

This winter has not been kind to my little munchkin this year. Ever since before Christmas she has been back and forth being sick with coughs and sneezes and to say that this mama is stressed by it is a major understatement. I have been doing everything under the sun to make sure that my daughter is healthy from all this; cough medicines, allergy medicine, expensive hospital visits (because our insurance sucks) and ER visits. But this crud of hers just isn't going away.

Last Monday and Tuesday, I had noticed that Sofia was coughing again and so at night time on Tuesday I gave her some cough medicine and went to bed. The next day was going to be another photo day at Sofia's school so I figured she'd be all right and didn't think much about it. I woke up to an empty bed because Juan had gotten in the bed with Sofia because of her coughing. I was at a loss...should I send my kid to school for the three hours or should I keep her here? Those were the two major questions in my mind.

Sofia's fast rapid breathing answered that for me and I called the school to let them know that I was taking her to urgent care. After getting dressed and in the truck we dropped off Juan at work and then I went to the county hospital that I used to work at hoping that we would be able to be seen quickly and headed home for rest.

However... right away the triage nurse noticed something really wrong. Normal oxygen levels are supposed to be at 99/100. Sofia's was at a 92. So now I'm getting worried. This was worse than I thought possible. What made this situation worse was that the doctor that saw her was a complete doofus. I decided to take her to the er at the children's hospital next. I tried to avoid that at first because of money issues and insurance like I said before.

Again they quickly got her settled in a room and got an oxygen mask on her. All day long we stayed in that room, seeing if some breathing treatments or steroids would get her feeling better. But her oxygen levels just wouldn't raise and without the mask, they crept down to 88. The doctor and the nurse had no choice but to keep her overnight.  Not what I wanted to hear, but at the same time I was happy that she was in good hands.

My mom came down to stay with Sofia while I went to pick up Juan who at this time, knew about the situation. He wasn't happy about it but who was really? We picked up a few things from the supermarket and then headed back to our little lady who had been transported to her room. We got our information from the nurses and there we were just staying in this room which I found out was isolation.

The first night was okay. Juan and I were exhausted so he slept in the recliner and I slept on the couch. Sofia slept okay for a while too but nurses came in every few hours or so to give her more breathing treatments and to pat her firm on the back to loosen up some of that gunk in her lungs. This kind of routine went on through the night and through the next day.

The nurses and doctors seemed to believe that Sofia had a respiratory virus and they wanted to take precaution around the other children. So it kind of sucked because we couldn't take Sofia around the hospital and after a while, she would get so stir crazy. We managed though with walks around the floor that Sofia was required to take and also some visits from family. My dad came as well as my in-laws much to Sofia's delight. The hospital also had a few visitors to see Sofia:

She loved them and so did we. We had really good food; we were allowed a free meal each and it was like room service which was good cause we were a little tight money wise. Everybody was so incredibly nice to us as we stayed for another day and a half. Finally, Sofia was allowed to walk around without oxygen. It was such a relief to see her getting better, I'm telling you. I remember when I was about a year old than she was and I was in the hospital myself with asthma. So it really hurt me to see my daughter in the same predicament.

When the day came that Sofia was supposed to go home, we were ecstatic but a little worried. We had to give her an inhaler as she got better and some Zyrtec to keep her allergies down. I got her a shirt from the gift store that she wore out of the hospital. We packed up and said our goodbyes to the incredibly nice nurses that helped us out and then as we were going down we were surprised to see dogs! Real live dogs in the foyer. Sofia went to go and pet a few and then got a free build-a-bear that she named Brownie. It was a great ending to her little hospital ordeal; all in all, we stayed for two days and a half but let me tell you...that was the longest visit of my life.

I'm so very grateful to God for taken care of her and on a happier note. During the visit, I found out that Sofia was accepted into the Texas School of the Arts! I had put an application for her months before so to know she was randomly selected by lottery just put sunlight on my day, ya'll! It just shows you that God can work in so many ways that you least expect. Keep a look out for those miracles...they might just be right in front of your face.

Throwback Days || Remembering High School Days

Real life is something else isn't it? With so much you have to do as an adult, it's no wonder that you hear people (myself included) saying that they wish they were back in those high school days where the majority of the worries you had were if you passed your grades or if that boy liked you. I saw that my blogging friend Leslie had written this survey on her own blog and I, being a natural quiz lover wanted to follow suit! Let's take a walk in my high school years, shall we?

1 Did you date someone from your school?
Yes. A couple of them really, but it wasn't until senior year that found my first long term relationship with a guy named Steven. We dated and were boyfriend and girlfriend for seven crazy yet awesome months.

2 Did you marry someone from your school?
No. I married Juan and we met while we worked at John Peter Smith hospital.

3 Did you carpool to school?
Yes. I carpooled with my uncle, my cousin Amber and a neighbor/friend.

4 What kind of car did you have?
I didn't have a car.

5 What kind of car do you have now?
I share a Dodge Ram 1500 with my hubby

6 It's Friday - football games or party?
It was iffy. I sometimes went to North Crowley to watch football games but other than that, I was at home.

7 It's Saturday night? (I'm guessing you want to know what I would've been doing?)
Majority of the time, I was at home hanging with my friend Michael.

8 What kind of job did you have in high school?
I didn't have a job.

9 What kind of job do you have now?
I'm an assistant

10 Were you a party animal?
Nope. I was never invited to a party and I never had a party at my house. My high school years were pretty boring in that aspect.

11 Were you considered a flirt?

12 Were you in band, orchestra, or choir?
I was in choir as a alto.

13 Were you a nerd?
Not really. I was just trying to survive high school.

14 Did you get suspended or expelled?
Nope. Never.

15 Can you sing the fight song?
I never knew. Didn't pay attention or care to learn it.

16 Who was your favorite teacher?
My algebra teacher, Mr. Tuttle. He was always so understanding and nice to me. He always made sure to help me out with any difficulties and even called me Smiles.

17 Where did you sit during lunch?
Outside in the courtyard with my friends. We were kind of the outcasts of the school, but we didn't care cause we had each other.

18 What was your school's full name?
James Martin High School

19 When did you graduate?

20 What was your school mascot?

21 If you could go back and do it again, would you?
Maybe. If I had more understanding of math. That was really what brought my life in school down. Other than that, I think I'd be okay with it.

22 Did you have fun at the prom?
I LOVED IT. Greatest night of my teenage life. Funny story: My mom brought me to my prom in Dallas and dropped me and Steven off. We tried to find somebody we knew but there wasn't anybody. The reason was because our prom was across the street. We were at another school's prom! That didn't stop me from hiking up my dress and running across the street to get to mine.  What? Those tickets weren't cheap!

23 Do you still talk to the person you went to prom with?
Not anymore. Things happened in his life and we separated.

24 Are you planning on going to your next reunion?

Not sure. I didn't even go to the first high school reunion cause I forgot it.

25 Do you still talk to people from school?
Yes. Facebook is an amazing thing. It feels like we never left each other from school.

and now some photos from way back when...

How was high school for you all? Show me and others by doing this survey too! Let's reminisce together.

La Reina || Today I...

I wore: It was a low back kind of day so I had two unimpressive outfits today; first was a gray tee-shirt and blue jeans to drop off/pick up Juan and the kidlet. The second was a gray dress with salmon colored stripes.

I did: Washed some clothes, cooked and chilled while playing video games and watching Nashville.

I cooked: Crock pot chicken thighs with cream of celery, pasta-roni and salad. Side of sauteed spinach for me too.

I listened to: The radio in the truck. It was more of a TV/video game day like I said up above.

Best Part of the Day: Was savoring that yummy dinner I made for my family while watching Steven Universe together. It was scrumptious and the cartoon made dinner cozy.

This Kid Behind The Blog || February 2017

Red and pink hearts, chocolate boxes, sweetheart candies and valentines. That's right, it's about time for Valentine's Day, folks! I have yet to get a paper about getting valentines for Sofia's school but I'm pretty sure it's coming. I can't believe still to this day that she's in school. Just unreal sometimes. But let me stop thinking about that before I start bawling my eyes out because I need to share Sofia's interview questions for February. I'm linking up with Beth for The Kids Behind The Blog link up and adding my kid to all of those cute question and answers.

1. What does the word love mean to you?
I go and stay with Love. I make her happy. (She means my mom who she calls "Love")

2. Kids choice! How do you want to spend Valentine's Day?
We have to make a box. (I guess she means boxes for Valentine cards)

3. Do you have a valentine? If so, who?
Mrs. Lebeouf.

4. How many days are in February?
3.  (You're missing like 25 more days, kidlet.)

5. How do you show somebody you love them?
Give really big hugs and kisses. (I'll definitely take that!)

La Princesa || Roller Skating Princess

I have been so blessed with seeing La Princesa accomplishing so many "firsts" in her life. Her first word, her first tooth, her first time walking, her first time on a plane, going to school. So on and so forth, right? Knowing that makes me even happier because I know that there are more firsts to come in her future. I'm going to try to have the camera ready for every time too! Even it if it embarrasses her :P

Last Saturday, Sofia had her first roller skating experience. We as a family had been invited by a fellow friend of ours to his daughter's 10th birthday party. Once we got to the roller rink, we got Sofia ready by getting her skates on and then got her onto the floor. She had a time trying to find her balance, holding on to Juan and me, but then she got a little walker made out of plastic pipe and wheels and then she was off!

I tried my hand on trying to skate again. I figured it would be like riding a bike again after 15 + years of not skating.  It...wasn't. Oh, Lord it wasn't.  #won'tbedoingthatagain

Sorry for the blurs! But look at that cute walker though!

Sofia had a blast though! She kept wanting to go back out on the floor to show us her skating skill with the walker. Juan walked with her majority of the time, while I made sure we were fed with pizza , but I had a go around the rink with her too...sans roller skates this time around. I'm glad she had a good time and I hope we can take her again. Probably won't be to this one though; it was a bit run down. Maybe as time goes by, I can get used to skating again. Either that or I can fall and break some bones!

How old were you when you started skating? Do your kids do it now?  Do you still skate?

Royal Lifestyle || My Month In Numbers (January)

I don't know if it has been very noticeable but I really haven't been blogging as often as I used to. But yesterday, I decided to get back into it; you know, whole new year and all. I think the reason why is because it was becoming a bit dull and monotonous. Same old posts, same old events...and also I have a life now outside of my computer so that added to that ordeal. So maybe just maybe with some new prompts and new link ups, I can start doing things a bit differently and get back into that blogging groove.

With that being said, today I'm starting a Month in Numbers link up with Deena to kick things up in this kingdom of mine. It will be a good way to keep track of things in our life and also yours so if you feel like joining in, feel free to!

1 new Happy 365 Planner that I've been working in. I'm in love with it. I want more of them. Hell, maybe even a mini one to keep in my purse!

3 sets of 365 Planner stickers that I've acquired.

3 times that I've been to Michaels to find said stickers. It's a growing addiction I think. No thanks, I don't need rehab for it either!

9 January birthdays: Juan, Alisha, Eric, Daniel, Drewbie, Cynthia, Kim, Jorge, and Marylou.

4 times we went out to eat this month. Not sure how much we spent but it was worth it.

I spent $12 dollars on a car wash for El Rey's birthday. Paloma really needed it! We usually only spend around $5 instead.

Speaking of birthdays, Juan turned 32 this month! He's still looking quite sexy and the thirties look good on him.

Only 8 days done for the 365 photo project I wanted to do. I've been so back at staying on track with things I want to do. I hope I get better at that this year.

1 interview. I tried to find a part time job because it's most likely my Mom's Day Out job will be over in late May. I managed to land an interview at Kindercare for an after school teacher.

2 seasons in Texas this month. Summer and Winter. It's been so crazy! One day it will be 40 degrees and the next it will be 80 like today! I'd love to say it's nice, but it's really wrecking havoc on me and La Princesa's allergies.

1 new purchase for photography courses at Snapshop. I really need to be brushing up on my photo skills in any way possible.

3 birthday dinners for El Rey. He had one with me and Sofia at Golden Corral, one at Griff's with his family and then a nice cookout for him at his parent's house. My husband is pretty special.

40 birthday guests estimated for Sofia's birthday party. I think our house and backyard can hold them.

2 days sick with a stomach flu. It sucked. Nuff said.

3 Superman movies that Sofia and I watched last week. We loved them!

Not bad for a month right? I can't wait to see what February has going on!
