Royal Holidays || Thanksgiving 2015

So here we are! The Monday after Thanksgiving, Cyber Monday or for us, the Calm after the storm of frenzy! I truly hope that you all had great holidays as we did.

On Thanksgiving Day, we had a calm morning with El Rey being home from work. Then after that we started getting ready an hour or so earlier than the time to arrive, because we were sure that we had to make a long trip to the in laws to get Sofia's brown leather boots. I had bought Sofia's outfit off of Zulily a few months in advance and even though it was a pants outfit, the look of just the shirt was long enough to make it a dress. Add some white stockings and the boots we needed and we had an adorable turkey day look!

Thankfully they were in the truck the whole time, but we were dressed and already at the truck so we decided then to go to my dad's house to spend about 30 minutes with him. It was the opposite of a bright sunny day; cold and rainy but after we talked with Dad we made it to our Thanksgiving destination: my cousin Lori's house (the mother of Courtney and Matthew) I was too happy to reconnect with my family, especially Courtney who is usually in Abilene for school. We wasted a bit of time watching the Macy's Thanksgiving parade and I demonstrated my ability for Broadway by dancing along with the acts.

Once all of our family had arrived, we came down to say grace over the food and eat.

Very blurry but still PRAYER!
From what I remember this was on the menu: turkey, stuffing, collard greens, mashed potatoes, giblet gravy, macaroni and cheese, green bean casserole, potato salad, pea salad, rolls and cranberry sauce.

Dessert was great too: Various pies and pastries. Pretty much I partook in everything. When we were stuffed to the brim, the family split up throughout the house. Some were watching the very sad Cowboys game and the others were down stairs playing a game called Bananagrams. I really didn't understand it so I sat it out and took photos.

Ryan, the groom to be. His wedding will be in
a future post.
We finished out the night with Hollywood Game Night which had the two teams; Lady Estrogens against the Testosterone Knights. In this boys versus girls brawls, the ladies kicked ass for serious even thought there were various questions regarding rules through the whole game. I don't blame anybody; the rules did leave a lot of holes out.

The worst part of the night was the fact that because of the relentless rain all night, the curbsides were completely flooded. My shoes and dress were so drenched and cold! Not a good way to end a warm family holiday. This was the first time in a long time that we've had Thanksgiving as a whole family because we usually are together for Christmas. So that's a good new tradition I think to take place of our annual talent show we used to have. Rumor has it though, that there has been talk of future shows but we'll see how that goes.

I'm so thankful that I was able to spend this day with my family and with my husband and my daughter. It couldn't have been any better than that!

It's Back! To-Know-Me Tuesday Linky Party!

It's only a few more days until Thanksgiving, ya'll! Can you believe it? I sure can't cause that means that Santa's "ho ho ho" is just around the corner. Get your wrapping paper ready!

I'm so excited! Why you ask? Not just because of the abundance of Turkey Day food that I will be consuming but also because after months and months, hell maybe even a year, I've decided to bring back To-Know-Me Tuesdays as a linky party! *insert applause here*

Not only that! I also have a new co-host, Sonya from Saving Everyday With Sonya K,who will be joining every Tuesday to help me get to know all you awesome bloggers who wish to stop by and link up!

The rules are simple:

List 10 things about yourself. It can be random, it can be themed, it can be all about favorites. But it needs to be 10. Afterwards, please plaster a nice To-Know-Me Tuesday button (located on my sidebar)on that terrific post of yours and there you have it. Tell your family! Tell your friends! :P All in all, we just want to be able to get to know each other; the people behind the blogs. Whelp...I'm rambling on I think so I think we should just get to it, don't you?

Speaking of Turkey Day Food...

Here are my 10 Favorite Thanksgiving Foods to eat

1. Turkey: That's a given, right? Well, not really because some people are too fond of the dry white meat of turkey. But I think that if you cook it just right, you be able to eat half of that turkey all by yourself. Me myself, I'm more fond of the dark meat!

2. Homemade Mashed Potatoes: LAWD, have mercy. I love me some mashed potatoes. Especially when they are all whipped up from hot peeled potatoes and full of flavor with butter and spices.

3. Collard Greens: I'm a sucker for collard greens. My Nanny used to make them all the time when she was here with us and ever since I have needed to have some at every Thanksgiving. If we don't have any at my house when we eat them, then I usually go to my Auntie Brenda's to get a bowl full of them. She never minds!

4. Macaroni and Cheese: Hold up! I"m not talking about Kraft Boxed Mac and Cheese. I'm talking about baked mac and cheese. Where it's layer upon layer of macaroni and melted cheeses. I usually make that for Turkey Day, but this time my cousin Audia is taking the reins on that one.

5. Cranberry Sauce: I know lots of people make their own homemade cranberry sauce but me and mine are just fine and dandy with the canned version. In fact Mom says it's her special dish that she always brings.

6. Giblet Gravy: Queen Mother's Bad Ass Giblet Gravy- Nuff said.

7. Deviled Eggs: Now this one, I'm not sure counts as a Thanksgiving food but it always seems to find it's way to our dinner plates. I'm not sorry that it does either!

8. Rolls: King's Hawaiian for the win!

9. Yams: Especially in a casserole with melted marshmallows on top! YUM!

10. Pumpkin Pie/Sweet Potato Pie: Lifetime favorite. For serious!

And there you have it! Do you have some Turkey Day Favorites? Or do you just want to tells us about yourself? Link up and let's see!

Happy 5th Birthday, RTOK!

Drinks all around! Let's celebrate!

Today marks FIVE...yep that's right, FIVE years this blog has been around! I actually didn't even notice until last week that it's been that long. What an accomplishment especially for myself! I can barely keep up with doing things I need to do. But the fact that I have kept Ruling the Ortiz Kingdom going for so long makes me so proud!

When I started this blog, I had no idea what would be in store for me with it. All I knew was that I wanted a place to show off about my life. So that I could come back and read it for memories sake. I was so into journaling like in Livejournal that I had no clue just how much more blogging was. How much more to do inside of it. I've learned so much from then...

My, what a journey this has been for me. But I love it. I love it so much.

I can't wait for the next five years and the next five after and I hope whoever is reading will be there to see what unfolds during those years!

Throwback Days || Senior Prom 2004

Let's face it...every teenager is willing to hurry up and graduate so they can leave that prison called High School. Okay, maybe I'm being a bit dramatic but hey, that's how I felt about it! After all four years of failing classes and getting up so very early in the morning, you guys have to know how excited I was for the prom of my Senior year!

I was pampered by a manicure and pedicure the day before and on the day of I was pampered even more with a new hairstyle and makeup done by my mom. I got a beautiful dress that my dad helped me get and I was trying to go for the whole Disney's Cinderella vibe as you can see below...

I even got some see through shoes to get the glass slipper feeling! White gloves and a glittering necklace finished the prom look I was going for. What do you think? Not too shabby, right?

Me and Nanny

My mom looking for like my sister than my mother
My prom date was my high school boyfriend, Steven Mason. We stayed together for 7 months and that was the longest relationship I had ever had in that moment in my life. He was sweet and protective, but sometimes had his bossy times.

The location of our prom was in Dallas though I don't know the exact location. Funny story: My mom and her boyfriend at the time drove us there but dropped us off at the wrong prom. We had to run across the street; me in my high heels to the right location. (I still love her for trying). Dinner was great and so was the music. My friends and I danced all night long and I never wanted it to end.

But as you all know, because I'm sure the majority of you have been to your own proms, it did end. But what didn't end was our memories of that senior year and even years before in Martin High School. My group of friends were so loyal to each other that we knew that not even graduation would tear us apart. HUGE thanks to Facebook for keeping us in touch even if for a bit. After the prom, Steven and I went to Bahama Bash at our school for the rest of the night and I fell into my bed at about 4 in the morning. A night well spent I think!

How were your proms? Did you stay out all night long? Let me know!

What I'm Thankful For: For being able to graduate from high school so that I can have my own family and home.

Writer's Wednesday || Take Two Faves (Summer 16-20)

Chapter 16

Hikaru stared after her before noticing Derrick sitting back down. He kept the gaze of Aija’s father wondering what was next. Derrick didn’t keep him waiting.

“Look, I’m just going to come right out and say this. My first impression of you wasn’t a good one and I’m not too sure that I like you at all.”

Hikaru leaned forward on the table, crossing his fingers. “You’re entitled to your own opinion, Mr. Edwards. But just out of curiosity, may I ask why?”

“Just from what I’ve seen, you’re not good for my daughter.” Derrick said, crossing his fingers as well.

“You barely know me. How do you know how good I am for Aija?”

The two men stood their ground, each one wanting the other one to fold. Hikaru wasn’t one to back down, but he was also one to make sure that everything worked out for the good.

“I have raised that woman since she was eight years old, young man. I’m pretty sure I know what she likes and what she doesn’t.”

Hikaru scoffed. “Are you sure, Mr. Edwards? She’s a grown woman and can change.”

“I’m aware of that. But I’m also aware about you as well.”

“I have no idea what you mean.”

“You wouldn’t. But I’ve seen many guys like you, Hikaru. Playboys that want to just wam bam, thank you ma’am to girls that want nothing more but to love you.”

Derrick’s arrow hit him straight in the heart and Hikaru let his normal mask of unfeeling disappear for just a moment but it was moment enough for Derrick to catch.

“Uh huh. I knew it. Don’t you underestimate me, son. I know things that you have yet to learn and I don’t have to be a doctor to know it.”

Chapter 17

Evelyn chuckled light. “You are worth it, Aija. Don’t you ever think otherwise either. We ladies have to stick together and don’t worry about your daddy. He’s going to have to learn to let go a little bit, sooner or later.” Aija laughed at how far-fetched that seemed as her aunt asked, “Anything else you want to talk about?”

Aija started to form words but they caught seeing Hikaru’s Aston Martin pulling into the driveway. Her heart took over the sigh of relief and she finally answered back, “No ma’am, but thank you. Have a good rest of your night. I love you.”

“I love you too sweetie. Bye bye.”

Aija could picture Hikaru getting out of his car and after walking through the small lobby going into the elevator. She could hear his footsteps getting closer and closer and judging the distance, she knew he didn’t stop at his condo but was now advancing to hers. Aija got up and walked to her front door. The footsteps stopped and she knew that he was behind the other side of her door. Her hand froze above the knob as she peeked through the peephole.

Hikaru’s face was stoic as it usually was, but there was a certain amount of pain in his eyes. Something happened and Aija wasn’t sure she wanted to know what. Was what happened with her aunt about to happen now? Did it already happen? She closed her eyes slow and whispered, “All I can do is live for today…”

She opened her door, looking at the man she loved in front of her in question.

Hikaru stared back for a few moments before hitting her with three words: “Nicole kissed me.”

Chapter 18

“It’s about Aija. Her father hates me.”

“How can that be? He just met you last night?”

“That was after I walked in on them while saying that I wanted to sex up his daughter.”

Asami covered her mouth with a dainty hand. “…Oh.”

Hikaru quickly told Asami the whole story about last night and at the mention of Nicole kissing him, Asami shook her head.

“Poor Aija…she must be pissed.”

Hikaru’s eyes nearly bugged out his head. “Poor Aija? I don’t understand that because in my opinion, she should be just fine. I didn’t kiss Nicole! She kissed me…she took the initiative.”

“Aniki…its your OPINION. It’s not a fact. The fact is, a woman other than the one you’re supposed to be with, kissed your lips. Touched your mouth with her own. Don’t you think that Aija should be a more than a little upset?”

Chapter 19

“Can you see anything?”

“Nope.” It was the truth.

Silence answered her again and she could feel the car turning a right and up a tiny ramp into what Aija thought was a parking lot. Butterflies fluttered in her stomach. That was the way she always felt when a surprise was waiting for her. Not able to take the anxious feeling, she began messing with her dress to distract her mind.

Hikaru’s chuckle at that didn’t help matters at all. “We’re here.” He said, however…stilling her mind and increasing the butterflies. Aija heard him leaving his side of the car and then nothing as the door closed. Her door then opened and she felt her boyfriend’s arm on her shoulder.

“Give me your hand.” She heard him say in a soft voice. Aija took his hand and was nearly lifted out of the car. She turned her head side to side to see what she could hear surrounding her.

Nothing. There was nothing there but the sound of wind blowing past her. Hikaru walked her a few steps ahead and then stopped her in front of him.

“Can I open my eyes now?” She asked, nearly shivering in excitement. “You can.” Was his reply. Aija’s hands flew to the scarf and removed it, freeing her vision once more. After she blinked a few times and looked up, her eyes grew as wide as saucers.

Hikaru heard nothing from the woman in front of him and so moved around to Aija’s side to see her reaction. Her look of surprise gave way to a frown of confusion.

“W…Wh…What is this?” She asked looking into intense eyes.

The two were standing in front of a jet plane which was parked in a slight angle. Sunlight gleamed off of the top of it and it’s lights at the end of the wings blinked in a slow rhythm. Hikaru smiled proudly at it but Aija was still just as confused.

“What is going on?” She asked again, daring Hikaru not to answer.

“We are going on vacation, Aija. I’m taking you to Jamaica.”

He could hear the air leaving Aija’s lungs as she gave a quick gasp before her eyes filled with tears. Normally, the sight of Aija’s tears would have tore Hikaru apart, but not this time. This time…he knew that she was crying with happiness.

“Happy Birthday, Aija.” He gave her a warm smile, opening his arms for her.

“How did you know that I always wanted to go to Jamaica?” Aija asked coming to him to hug him with appreciation.

Hikaru hugged her body tight to his, laying his head on top of hers.

Chapter 19

They were soon settled in their room in the resort and Hikaru tipped the man graciously for his help. After his departure, Hikaru glanced over to see Aija opening windows to let the fresh Jamaican breeze blow in, the wind blowing her ponytail back. She closed her eyes with a smile letting it flow over her. She wanted to look at the beach but before she could run out, Hikaru grabbed her hand halting her movements. When she looked at him in question, he advanced toward her.

“Oh, I hope you didn’t think that you’d be spending your birthday without your clothes off.”

Aija swallowed hard at the husky tone of his voice, pointing out at the view. “I…just thought I’d look at…”

Hikaru brought her over to him against his stone hard cock, hearing her gasp. “Feel that? You thought wrong.”

He lifted his hand to Aija’s ponytail, releasing the dark brown lengths from it’s holder before capturing her hair in a tight grip. Aija cried out slight as he leaned down to kiss and lick up her throat. Next, his hands removed her jacket slow, wanting nothing more but to be inside her body. But then he curbed the ferocity of his need for a moment to look into her eyes. She looked back into them.

“I’m sorry, Aija.”

“Sorry?”

“Yes. I’m sorry about that other night. I was wrong and I see that now. Can you forgive me for being an insensitive prick?” He meant every single word and he could tell Aija saw that when her eyes softened.

She caressed the side of his face saying, “You are my heart, Hikaru. Yes, I forgive you.”

Hikaru sighed with relief, putting her head against hers before grabbing onto her ass and picking her up, kissing her passionately before continuing the path around her neck with his lips.

Royal Holidays || Enter the Best Giblet Gravy Ever!

Okay...okay... so maybe I'm over-exaggerating a bit, but to me my mother's giblet gravy is the best! She makes it every year when we prepare turkey and it gives it just that oomph to the meal. She was ok with me sharing her recipe with you all so get your pen and pads and write this bad boy down!

Not my mom's! But it look like this! Source

The Queen Mother's Bad Ass Giblet Gravy Recipe

1 package of giblets
(usually in the turkey, but if needed you can also buy)

4 to 5 boiled eggs

Flour to thicken

Salt/Pepper

Garlic/Onion Powder (to taste)

1. Boil giblets until cooked.
2. Boil the eggs
3. Remove giblets from water but reserve the stock.
4. Chop up giblets and return them to the stock
5. Chop up eggs and add them to the the gravy
6. Season giblets with salt, pepper, onion powder and garlic powder
7. Pour 1/5 of giblet stock into a bowl and then add a tablespoon of flour before stirring to the right consistency.

There you have it! I hope that with this you will enjoy my mother's gravy just as much as I do!

I'm thankful for: The fact that despite our low funds we still have just enough food to eat before we can get more. Thank you, Lord.
