Halloween...Second Time Around

It's that time again. The time of year when you get free candy just by walking down a street or two. That's right! It's Halloween! Sofia still doesn't understand what it's about but that still didn't keep me from taking some pictures of her. I decided not to get her a costume even though I had a really bad yearning to make her a Edward Scissorhands costume. Her natural curly hairstyle would have been just right for that. Instead I put on a cute Halloween type of outfit that her abuelita got her a while back. Now that she was able to fit it, I had no problem with it.

The weather was nice enough to go outside without a jacket and to get some really good pictures with the outfit. Sofia for the most part, cooperated but when you are 1 and your attention span is so little, you are going to be everywhere. I was happy with the results though.

As soon as the hubs got home, we started getting ready for Trick or Treating. I fixed up Sofia's face by putting a kitty cat nose and whiskers on her face then I figured what the heck! I'll do it too! We were matching kitties!

Sofia had a blast getting the free candy from everybody. She was held by Juan the whole time but that didn't stop her from eating a lolipop while searching for more candy to get. She had a pretty good sized bag of candy that her Papi and I didn't mind helping her eat. In our opnion, one year olds don't need a whole bunch of candy.

Blurry but you get the drift...

Teeth management is hard enough as it is.

How did your Halloween go? Did you have parties? Or went Trick or Treating with the kids like us? Or nothing at all? I think ours was pretty good this year and who knows? Next year's might be even better.

An Ortiz Bridal Shower

This night was special in that we celebrated Fatima's final month as a single woman. I'm so excited that this family is growing and that this lady is going to be my sister-in-law. So far...I'm the only woman legally bonded to the Ortiz family so it will be nice not to be alone and to have someone to spend time with during family gatherings.

We got the backyard all decorated and set out the flowers and favors which were shaped like tiny man parts of course! Fatima acted so innocent but Bianca and I had a blast with the tiny candies (this shows you who's the corrupt ones of the family)

Sofia had a blast as well. (yes, there were kids and men at this shower...don't know why but it worked.) She was adorable as usual and was having a great time playing with another little boy  her age. Though El Rey and I were pretty sure she was flirting There were even tiny baby kisses. Adorable, right?

After some food and games, the party was a success. The wedding won't be until December but I'm sure I'll have just as much fun there as well! Bring it on!

What takes my breath away? I would say something like this picture, but that's so cliche nowadays. Seeing it in person, would be more of a realistic possibility but since I'm nowhere near going on vacation to the mountains then I'll just speak the truth.

For serious, a good TV show or story can take the breath away from this lady. I love a show that either reveals a surprise character, plot twist or a good cliffhanger. Like Scandal. My goodness that show right there is a mind twister. It really makes you think about the what ifs in life. What if our government is really that twisted and deadly? Not that I think about that on a daily basis, but when I'm watching that show, I do.

Other than that, maybe Sofia nearly hurting herself can take away some breath from these lungs. She's such a daredevil sometimes without meaning to be. I need as much breath as I can get with this little princess.

Welcome, Little Anastasia!

Today I've become a aunt for the first time! My younger sister, Alisha gave birth to a beautiful little girl via C-section and I couldn't be more happy for her. Anastasia or Annie is the newest little one to the family and she boosts Sofia up from being the youngest by a year and six months. After finding out on FB and text that she was born, Juan, Sofia and I went to the hospital to see our new family member.

Annie was born in the same hospital that Sofia was: Harris Methodist Southwest and coincedently Ahly was roomed in the room right next to the one I was in when la princesa was staying for those three days. Juan and I just couldn't stop thinking about how amazing that was. When we were able to come into the room to see the new family, we were immediately overwhelmed; there was so many people in her room and I wondered if Alisha had even had a minute of quiet to herself. But she seemed ok and even though she was groggy from her surgery, she was able to greet us and even was able to hug Sofia when she saw her.

I was able to hold my niece and when I did I was just in love. She was a little smushed up beauty.

I can't wait for Sofia and Annie to be able to play together and to have cousin chats like Jessica and I did or how Audia and I were as kids. Times have changed and family just isn't as close as I remember but maybe just maybe if we put the effort in, it doesn't have to be different. One can only hope.

Our own little family in the room.
I send my love and congrats to my sister and her lovely family. Motherhood is the greatest and I know she's going to learn that firsthand.
